VampCode updates

Release notes, new features, and fixes for the VampCode language and tools.

VampCode 0.1.1

· Custom CSS & UI

Build your own designs in the browser and in Windows desktop apps, using the same project CSS and working UI controls.

Custom CSS on both surfaces

  • styles/app.css loads automatically after the base stylesheet. Additional CSS imports load as stylesheets.
  • Edit or replace styles/vamp.css to change the base design. Your local file takes priority over the built-in sheet.
  • Custom widget classes replace the default design classes. Use class: "" for an element without those classes, and state chrome = "none" for a free canvas.
  • Use standard CSS selectors, variables, grid, flex, media queries, and animations. Relative CSS imports, images, and fonts resolve from the stylesheet's directory.

Working controls, components, and pages

  • Named inputs connect to declared component state, and buttons call explicit onClick methods. Change, input, and form events work too.
  • Containers accept properties and block children together. Reusable functions return UI nodes or lists that render directly inside layouts.
  • Images, links, and semantic elements render as real HTML. IDs, data attributes, ARIA attributes, and inline styles pass through.
  • Assets in public/ and assets/ load in the app. Nested pages such as app/about/page.vamp open at /about.

A faster design workflow

CSS and source edits refresh the running preview. vampcode dev . opens visual apps, and --surface lets you try the same project in a browser or desktop window without editing its manifest.

vampcode --version
vampcode run . --surface web
vampcode run . --surface desktop

Fixes and packaging

  • Component event references resolve to the declared method, and module constants are available in component views and methods.
  • HTML property names such as for and quoted attributes such as "aria-label" are accepted.
  • Missing CSS imports and failed actions report errors instead of silently continuing.
  • New projects include the complete base stylesheet and design helpers. The Windows download includes the WebView2 loader needed by the GNU build.
Windows desktop uses WebView2 The desktop CSS renderer requires the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime. On macOS and Linux, use the browser surface for custom CSS. The mobile surface is a narrow preview window.

Checked with real apps

This update was checked with the full workspace test suite, browser interactions, and Windows desktop tests for custom CSS, input actions, and responsive layouts. The custom design example and a newly generated web project both compile.
